2019 Podfic Year In Review
Dec. 31st, 2019 12:16 pmPodfics made in 2019: 25
What was the best podfic you made this year? Still quite pleased with how and i saw stars came out. I recorded the entire thing without realizing that my mic wasn't plugged in (and then learned that it hadn't been plugged in for the last 4!! things I had recorded hahaha fuck) and I think that anger/sadness translates in weird unexpected ways.
Most popular? Hilariously, Like stone we are, we stand together is my pod with the most hits this year, but it still has zero comments and only 3 kudos. Crit Role fandom, just embrace the fact that you want twincest!!!
Most underappreciated? I mean, all of my itty bitty gen pods were a delight to record, but I understand why people haven't listened to them.
Personal favorite, for whatever reason? we got the beat, because it was a blind recording and I think that type of strong chaotic POV is something I shine in.
Most difficult to make? Definitely It's Complicated, because the fic itself was written in a way that feels VERY unnatural for me to speak. I can't tell you how many lines I just sat there saying over and over again trying to make it through in one piece.
Most “ah ha ha I can’t believe I’m doing this”? Probably ta med dig solen? I've thought about recording a couple of trans stories in the past but shied away for various reasons.
Most fun to make? Obvs the episode of Be the Pod that
growlery and I did!
Was there one that didn’t turn out the way you wanted? I struggled a lot with the vocal modulation in Salami, Tomato, and Mayo on Rye because it's not something I've ever tried before. I think it came out fine in the end but jfc can Garageband be an asshole sometimes.
Biggest learning experience? See above, partially. I also had to get over weird accent fears for and we still had hours. You would have thought I got over that shit with all my time in 1D fandom, but no, apparently if you get into a fandom with professional voice actors you feel bad if you can't do the same. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
What’s next? Do you have any podfic goals for next year? Doing my same old shit, obvs. I'm going to finish a blackout of my Podfic Bingo card in January. Because my parents are going to be out of town for awhile I can luxuriate in all of my recording time, so this year I might get on my shit and record something really long. Also on my list is to record a full series! I have one picked out (with BP) but I'm not sure if the writing style will work with me well enough to want to do 15 different parts over 85k.
